Reason to Homeschool #4,231

I'm completely speechless...

War On Words: NYC Dept. Of Education Wants 50 ‘Forbidden’ Words Banned From Standardized Tests

The news story states: "The word “dinosaur” made the hit list because dinosaurs suggest evolution which creationists might not like..."

I'm not going to write anything in response to this story since it would be profanity-laced and certainly not suitable for NYC school children.

Fucking idiots (sorry, couldn't control myself).

  1. Well, the educational systems in all of the states seem to be populated with idiots! That is exactly why we home schooled our children and they are now professional adults doing wonderful things with their lives! I am a firm believer in helping children learn how to learn and then letting them do so! Unfortunately most of the public schools will not do this and are trying to turn our younger generation into robots!

    1. That stereotype of public schools is ridiculous. There are thousands of classrooms across this country filled with smart, curious and creative students who manage to thrive in spite of the onerous testing regimes brought to us by NCLB. As a high school teacher myself, I take great umbrage in the accusation that public schools are the cause of stupidity in this country. The true culprit is lazy, unintellectual parents who are too busy making a living and entertaining- themselves and their kids- rather than teaching values, a strong work ethic, delayed gratification and the sense that being smart is both fun and enriching. Yes, there are probably some pretty bad public schools and classrooms, but considering what society foists on them to fix, they do a lot better than one might expect. As for home school students, some of the most ill-prepared and ignorant students I've ever had in the high school classroom were home schooled in early years by parents bent on controlling information and dogma, rather than on enriching their kids. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I caution you to make broad generalizations about public schools unless you've taught in one.

    2. yeah, more families should home school, especially before the government says you can't.
